I (black) timed out, but my opponent did not have sufficient checkmating material. Why was this not a draw?

technically it is possible
If only I had a dollar every time someone asks this...

Oh, not again!
Read my posts on those threads linked by @)pepellou. Also search up my old threads with keyword draw.
I have previously propsed a fool-proof method to use instead of stupid one that FIDE uses.
FIDE rule takes 'possible mate' into account instead of 'forced mate'. They simply don't explain why. And even engines suck at fortress positions (depsite using assumption of existence of perfect play) which are easily undertood by humans why is it so. They lack human thinking ability.

@Akbar2thegreat the system may be questionable, but at least it works the same for everyone.

FIDE rules are pretty simple. If you'll timeout, you'll lose. Unless checkmate is never possible, then the other player can never win and if they can never win, they cannot get the whole point.
Some may say it's not probable to get checkmate and so on, but then again if white times out here:
https://lichess.org/analysis/kr6/pp6/8/4P3/3P4/2P5/PP3QQ1/3K4_w_-_-_0_1
no one is going to complain, but it's as equally improbable that black would have won this.
Bottom line, time is part of the game, don't timeout if you don't want to lose on time.

Why did you give Black a whole rook and White just two queens?

It's like discrimination. Against everyone but it itself is terrible and poor. Hope you understand.
Why to use poor system then?
