Create a game preference and lobby filter

Hi

For the past few weeks I've had to manually set my create a game preference and lobby filter every time I reopen the browser - previously it was remembered between visits to the site and didn't need to be set.

Is this a bug caused by an update or something that is not going to change back?

Thanks

There was some troubleshooting done in https://lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/filter-lobby-bug ,
which found another bug.
Maybe the troubleshooting can help you find where the problem you are experiencing is rooted.

So, from reading the related topics, I'm guessing that there has been some change to how create game and lobby preferences are saved, going from server-based to a browser-based? I use Opera browser and have it set up so that it clears cookies and site data upon exit, which seems like a sensible thing to do if you want to avoid being tracked by many sites. Previously this didn't cause any issues, so I guess that something has changed at Lichess?

Sounds like a good guess!

Ahhh, that is probably it!
It looks like Lobby Filters are stored in "site data" - so if you clear that you will clear your filter!
Maybe you can whitelist Lichess?
Or write/find some fancy script which can re-create the Lichess storage from scratch when you start your cleared browser...

That sounds like a good guess! There are changes all the time.

Chess on!

#3 I have been told by other developers that Lichess has always relied upon local storage. Finding some way to whitelist Lichess when your browser purges data is likely your best option.

Thanks tors42, Toadofsky - whitelisting seems to do the trick.
