Can we correct the warning message that automatically comes

Hi,

I need to see if we can correct the message that comes when you have a time run out. I don't know how it effects me but I get it a lot in bullet when I am legit thinking. And it's actually very distracting when you do that and then notice you lost on time with a silly warning saying you let the time run out. It kind of effects me psychologically too. I don't let time run out. I am caught in a position most of the time where I am trying to figure out what to do and the time just runs out on me. I don't feel that should even have a warning. Is there anyway to fix this because I hate being threatened and if I get some stupid temporary ban from it, it would be like imprisoning an innocent person. I have not had a temp ban in a long time. The last one was from I believe aborting too many times. That was unavoidable but I accepted it because sometimes I have to rush back to work in break times, but this one where I am not at work and the time drops legit is extremely off putting and it effects my overall performance.

Can we get it adjusted please?

I don't see how lichess could adjust this system without compromising the ability to punish bad sportsmanship. Unfortunately, the only person who has any idea of what's going on in your head is you. Lichess can't separate the people who are actually thinking and the people who are annoying and decide to run their clocks out instead of respectfully resigning. If you want the good, you need to accept the side-effects of it. Using your analogy, getting a warning for running your clock out of time when you are actually thinking would be like committing a crime that you didn't know was illegal and facing the consequences of it.

Agreed. You will only get this warning if you let your time run for a decent amount of time. Ofc, in bullet this time can be fairly low but I'm not sure whether you should be playing bullet when you suddenly start thinking for half a minute when you only have 10 or 15 secs left and don't even realize when your time ran out. At some point, you just need to start moving, even if you haven't finished calculating yet. That's just how bullet (or getting low on time in general) works.

Even more so if it really bothers you so much.

Yes but punish people who are legit trying? Look I get people get butt hurt over supposed poor sportsmanship. But where I come from a player can do what he wants with his time. My point is I shouldn't be shunned for wanting to use bullet as a tool. I don't care about the points or the results. I just care about having a good position at the end and punishing someone for getting lost in a position for 20-30 second in my opinion is stupid. I think most of my warning is from the 10-15 second areas. I believe it's good to have the system for people who leave in losing positions. Not for time outs.

#2 #4 Honestly I don't understand why Lichess wants to punish "time-wasters" anyway; such seems like a waste of moderation effort. But I have no interest in becoming a moderator because moderation seems like hard work.

You have a 1900 Bullet rating so you're a quite skilled player ... I'm confused how it happens that you spend almost all of your time remaining when you have many moves to go and when your "thinking" will cost you the game due to time flag anyway. No. 1 rule in Bullet is to not think ...

And yeah, avoid playing when you'll be most likely interrupted. Isn't that stressful anyway?

@Cedur216

I tend to do the 2 1 time control, so I have time to think in most of the game. It's just sometimes I do get caught up in the game. There are also times I stop thinking all together. I am unsure where that comes from But it doesn't come a lot, and it isn't intentional. I am going to say time over steps by those two reasons probably encompass at least 60% of my losses. But someone can't tell me that a deep think from 10-20 seconds because you "lost the thread" is bad sportsmanship. People who claim that are carrying that term way too far. The only thing that is stressful to me is getting threatened by the system when I am innocent, and losing due to lag or disconnection from bad connections. Otherwise, nothing else stresses me.

The system has natural limits as it can't distinguish between salt-stallers and disconnects. They can't improve your connection or your concentration. And in case you should get an unwarranted playban indeed, there's always appeal.

I could just be guessing, but I think that lichess determines based on the percentage of your time control you use doing nothing on your move that ends the game when you're in a losing position.

If you're playing 2+1, then taking more than 10-15 seconds on your move at the end of the game in a losing position, and doing this in multiple games, it would definitely raise flags.

I understand that those positions are the ones where you want to think more, but you just gotta move, especially in bullet. It's rude to your opponent to keep them hanging for so long just for you to run out of time instead of making a move.

I do agree with the OP here. Green leavers are not that much of a problem, but having one pushing you while you are thinking is an annoyance instead. Standing this warning system, maximum thinking time allowance should be notified to both players before the game, I think.
