Add new time controls.

Ok I think I get what your saying, so if your ping is registering in the 2 to 300ms range, Lichess might compensate you with extra ms every couple of seconds or something? Do I have that right?

Not too long ago I was experience similar issues to what you described. I even asked in the forum if anyone knew how to lower ping as I assumed lower was better.

Anyway I stopped playing bullet recently because of it. I cant imagine what ultra bullet would have been like.

I agree that everyone should just play with their real time. If there is data on such things it should be made available.

Something like that, yeah. Without worrying too much about the details... lichess is basically estimating how much time to give you to compensate for your lag. There seem to be some naturally arising conditions which result in their estimate being either consistently too high or too low.

It also seems likely that some people are purposefully exploiting the issue in order to win more games. (Basically, by making lichess think they are lagging more than they are.) I'm not convinced that it's rampant, but some people do go to great lengths to cheat and lag switching isn't exactly hard to do. Recording lag data and making it available (e.g. in pgn comments) would enable suspicious patterns to be found.

Do you think Lichess should add even faster time controls, like: 10s, 5s, 2s, 0+0.25s? Ultra bullet is too slow.
0 + 1/4?!
I think I'd run out of time within one move.
I can't believe you think ultrabullet is too slow
