Why is there a question mark (?) behind some ratings?

Hello everyone! When I was playing chess, sometimes I've been recognising that my opponent, (or me myself), has a rating and behind it a question mark...,
For example:- 1340?
Anyone knows what does it mean? If you know please tell me, and thank you!

@J2001946255 It means their Rating Deviation is provisional (above 110 RD it is considered provisional), see also in https://lichess.org/@/J2001946255/perf/crazyhouse for example when you hover with mouse over provisional or 112.79

It means provisional, it is not a real rating. That just means he just started playing rated games and doesn't have a real rating yet.
