Good response.. well constructed thoughts.

Couldn't the above be said about any opening in the modern era? The dynamics now , if you are a professional, with the various data bases... and the chess engines. (with every game being played up loaded somewhere) The modern professional MUST have several openings as white and several as Black... correct?

On Tal... I tend to agree... but it's kind of a gray area for me. On one hand... (I'm 58) as a kid, Tal was kind of like a wizard, or a mad scientist... who prowess was cut short by his health. (at least that's how I remember TAL) Who knows what his impact would have been if he was able to retain the WC against Botvinik.

If chess ever went to a system where draws actually negatively impact your tournament score or as went to some form of prize fighter format... I have to believe openings like the King's Gambit make a come back.

As near as I can tell, the King's Gambit does not even seem to be attractive as just one of the main weapons for the modern professional GM.
