Puzzle solving, opening practice, and game experience improved my chess the most at this point. Seeing the rating increase in tactics trainer and games provided proof; however, calmly destroying my previously vastly superior friends was the sweetest result.

@Groparin
I started playing chess January of last year, after only learning the rules from my dad and causally playign at an early age. I wasn't concerned with improvement at first, but I started solving puzzles and playing more rated rapid and bltiz to get better. Now I have crossed 1800 in rapid (will get back soon) and I won't stop there! :D

My latest rating jump from 2000 to 2200 can be explained by reading my blog. The jumps before would take too long to explain in a few lines here. It's something I would teach people for money. It takes time.

What is the highest ratings possible for players who doesn't study or solve puzzles Daily? I can study 2 hours for a few days then back to normal of No study.

@ryan121 it is better to solve one or two puzzles per day (5-10 min), than tons of puzzles in one day, and after nothing in months. And everything depends on your dedication to achieve your goals. "You need make a step to go ahead."

I agree. I have been doing this method of Crash Study then No Study for few decades. And I am not even CM.

@ryan121 Not exactly difficult, but a little more challenging. It's a nice one. The real problem is seeing Bh7 in advance, that means not to get satisfied too early. The fact that only a mate makes sense in the position is of course giving the solution away pretty much, the rest is some basic calculation.

I'd attribute a lot of my improvement to what I call "monkey see monkey do"... meaning I watch the top players play, then try to copy their ideas/moves in my own games. Of course, I did a lot of studying as well... reading in my free time, reading while I'm eating, reading while in the restroom...
