It's this the first game ver played:

It's the lichess's creator versus an Anonymous player

no, that is definitely not the very first game played. lichess initially did not have accounts. so the very first game was between two anonymous players.

amusingly, the game mentioned in #2 has several older games linked in spectator chat. these older games though are between accounts as well, so none of them is the first game either.

thibault answered elsewhere that this is the first game:

it's between two anonymous accounts. back then moves were not stored either, so we have no idea which moves were played.

edit: have to use archive.org to link the source, because the qa does not exist anymore either.

If that's the first game ever played, then why does @thibault have a rating already? Maybe the first rated games weren't recorded? Or maybe ratings weren't implemented then, and were later back propagated to older games after they were implemented?

it is not, as explained in #4 and #5.

smart observation.

no, it's simply not the first game, see #5.

I guess that with all the enormous amount of debugging in the early development, there can't possibly have been a clear boundary between all the attempted games while it wasn't working properly and a clear, genuine game on a working platform. Many many games must have been played during the stages when it was partially working, and the glitches interrupting those games will have disappeared only gradually over time.

Quite a interesting game
EDIT-apperantly move history wasn't stored back then, hence why black resigned on move 0, the game was likely played but not stored.
