What is Pychess? • page 1/1 • General Chess Discussion • lichess.org

I found this site called Pychess. It looks very similar to Lichess you can play many variants there (this is not advertisement, just a fact. Please don't ban me for that) I can even log in and play there with my Lichess account. But is it a scam? Is it trustworthy? Is it even Lichess? Answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are allowing somebody yoi dont know to log in on Lichess on your behalf. There might be some security issues....

Nope it is not security issue. You mererely use oAuth to verify that you are a lichess user and this gives you very little. mostly faster rate of download. Not any different thang using google/facebook account to login to external services.

There are other similar services like https://www.openingtree.com/ for which you get bit faster responses if you do the login.

@petri999 pychess is not a lichess fork, you can find our code at https://github.com/gbtami/pychess-variants
It is better to call it a "sister site of lichess" :) We try to provide the same look and feel.
