What is DTZ and a number and DTM and a number in endgame analysis?

When I setup an endgame in board editor and when I do analysis board, I see in the opening/endgame explorer these terms "DTZ 1, DTZ 2, DTM 3" maybe it's Dan The Man lol

when I set my mouse there, it gives me an explication, but I don't understand it.

DTM = Distance to Mate. After this move, this is the minimum number of piece movements to a forced mate.

DTZ = Distance to Zeroing. After this move, this is the minimum number of piece movements until a capture or pawn movement (either of them resets, or zeros, the 50-move draw count).

You may find this study of mine amusing and relevant in understanding DTZ (and DTM).

it doesn't allow it because of an annoying rule implemented in chess from a very long time ago and everybody sees what I mean

Exactly. The 50-move draw rule. All chess programs have to deal with this rule. For positions, the FEN notation has a field halfmove clock which is the number of halfmoves since the last capture or pawn advance. The tablebases have to deal with the rule also. The DTZ in the tablebases can help programs avoid draws. I like that the tablebase on Lichess has both DTZ and DTM.
