what is considered a "decent" rating on this site

anything over 1600 is good, but no where near GM status - hit 2200+ and you'll be respected (unless your cheating haha)
For me, improving my own skill that is independent of others is what is decent. If I'm close to a title, I'd care more about a rating, but I'm not close. Rating doesn't matter much for class players.

Focusing too much on rating will be terrible for your chess. Just focus on improving and rating will follow, or so masters have told me.
Hahaha, he was bragging about his rating prior to getting caught using a computer? Lmao.
