What GM's that never won the WC inspire you

Nezmetdinov, Gligoric, Abdusatorov. Bronstein had his "chance"; made his best decision in eschewing it; then suffered for the remainder of his life for letting it go by. He was correct that being world champion would have been awkward for him in Soviet era, especially to win by defeating Botvinnik. Keres probably made the same kind of deal: be world champion, or live long and prosper slightly.

There were some chess books ... The Application of Chess Theory by Y Geller about his games . Grandmaster Preperation about the "Pet Variation" of Lev Poulegvesky & another book on his games Grandmaster Performance . David Bronstein Chess Improviser . Rueben Fine AKA A Passion for Chess . Games from A Rubenstein A Nimzovich (I liked Blockade book) R Reti Masters of The Chessboard & Modern Ideas In Chess . So many players who weren't Champions have inspired me I must admit' & of course that were Champions

Non champions that inspired me--offhand:

Keres- worked through his book until the binding fell apart
Suttles- won and lost some great games when I was trying to emulate his game
Kavalek- whose games showed me that there is still a lot of mystery in chess
Schlechter's tenacity in a losing position

2 old friends: Philip Lamb who I learned a lot from in analysis-- he saw things OTB that were invisible to me-- and George Andrews who passed away before realizing his potential in chess or physics. I spent a summer playing him almost every day and cannot recall even winning a game.

Learned a lot from Geller's games but not at the 'inspired' level. Bronstein is hard to classify: love his games but can't emulate them.

Ian Nepomniachtchi.
Esp in tactical games where he going his own way while he still got a lot of time left on his clock and score well vs good Gms this way.
