Fide hopes to increase their revenues by it but it could easily backfire. Some established players will drop below the new minimum threshold of 1400 so will stop playing for ratings = won't pay money anymore. Also some players will consider fideratings as worthless due to the adaptations and will stop playing for rating = won't pay money anymore. It is hard to say if this will be compensated by more money from titles. It is a gamble but fide needs extra money.

Bobby Fischer remarked " They have almost ruined chess" ... Rule changes to Arpad ELO's rating system might not work this time as the Corona Virus allowed people to TRAIN their chess BEFORE getting any rating ... those players brought on some deflation . However eventually of course it would have "Fixed itself" Over time . People just don't have that patience OR the changes will work out if they were thought about well and were MINOR changes' . These changes look more severe & bombast

the deflation happen well over decade nothing to do with pandemic or tv-series. Mostly result of lowering minimum requirement of getting FIDE rating at all

People play more so now if you average 52/48% win rate in 600 games instead of 500 that's potentially more elo bc of large player pool. Nevermind the "fixed" or stacked tournaments or other shenanigans that go on in dusty midsized cities in places nobody can pronounce.

Rate someone 2560 or 2760 it doesn't matter, how do they play against their equal peers?

Give them 2800 but if they go 3w 30L 11D against average 2650 they won't be 2800 very long.
