Does anyone know why there are local Maxima at every multiple of hundred rating? The rating graph looks like a normal distribution graph but has sharp points at almost every hundred.
Why is the number of players greater at 1900 than the number of players at 1875? Is it a human behavior thing that everyone wants to be higher than the hundred that one is close to or it's a lichess algorithm thing?

It is probably because players rest after reaching a certain milestone, in this case, every hundred. This makes sense because the 2000 peak is MASSIVE.
I think it's the other way around too. People don't like at all being rated in the late hundreds. For example, if I am at 1887, I will push hard to 1900s. I certainly don't wanna stay in the 1800's now. lol.

yes
@John33
Isn't it the same thing?
You will battle like mad now to get to 1900 and then you will sort of have a while feeling content with your Elo.

@GiGGidi No my friend they are two different things.
Statement A : Players rest after reaching a milestone.
Statement B: Players grind before reaching a milestone.
First one implies that players don't play as much (or work as much) after reaching a milestone. Say, you usually play 2 games a day, and after reaching a milestone, you now play 0.5 games a day.
Second statement implies that players push hard before they reach a milestone and then might be back to normal. Say, you play 2 games a day, before reaching a milestone you play 4 games a day. And after reaching the milestone, you are back to your normal 2 games per day.

Yeah obv two things. Both of them work together here.
The expression „the other way round“ sounds like they are exclusive. I guess this is where you unintentionally started some of the confusion.

How in the world do you play 0.5 games?!
