Hello everyone,
I would first like to state that I've been using Lichess for quite some time and have fallen in love with the site as a whole. Up to this point, it has served as the perfect playground for chess practice and studying with amazing community features.
However, as of today, I no longer enjoy the website. The new update has ruined the most important part of chess: making moves. I expect a grabbed piece to follow my cursor exactly, but it lags behind significantly. This causes a disruption in hand-eye coordination and makes moving feel unnatural. Movement also is laggy sometimes, which is not acceptable. Playing games or even analysis feels unprofessional and leaves me desiring the old experience. I will not comment on the new aesthetic changes very much, but they have a similar vibe to gameplay.
As someone who has programmed for the past ten years, it is not extremely difficult to implement multiple variants of a website that feature older or newer renditions simultaneously. It can be done, and I highly recommend that the devs look into it.
Please remember that this is constructive criticism. I looked through the forums and found a vary large amount of people (around 50%) making similar complaints, which means that mistakes were made. We want the high-quality experience back again.
