The given solution to this puzzle seems incorrect to me.

Yea, that's too funny. But, it gets better. Open up the game. W took 5 sec to capture on f6 (Nxf6), then B took 13 sec to capture the B on d3. Then not only did W not take the free Q, B didn't play the puzzle line and left it en pris, and W went on to miss the free Q a second time! Lol.

There is a trainload of red, blue and orange in the analysis!

I got it right... only catch was making sure the N protects the back rank so the final N capture isn't met with #.

holy carpenter tree...
both of deez guys be smokin' somethin'

I kept playing through the puzzle, after the given solution, and it went on for a long time for me. I finally gave up. I don't think there's no one "magic solution" and the real solution is complex in fact too complex for me to resolve to the end. I guess that was my point.

I guess you might overthink this. Just count the pieces before and after - and you will see that the combination will win a piece. That's all there is to it. It's not checkmate or anything near it at the end. Just gaining an advantage, and the game keeps going.

The combination is not trivial, but it is very forced: QxR is a check, only allowing one legal move, RxP is the same, and the discovered check is also pretty forcing.

But you should also see that White will capture the rook at the end, and Black will capture the knight - and there is no back rank mate.

There are thousands of exercises... don't worry if at your current level you don't understand each one.
