Hi people!
there are two tests with four question each. If you dont answer 100% the first test you are in beginner level. If you answer 100% the first test and not 100% second test you are in intermediate leve. If you answer 100% both tests (all 8 questions) you are in advanced level.
My result was 100% test 1 and 50% test 2, but if I work hard on question 3 I would make 75%. Question 4 maybe was hard looking on the board too lol
Good lucky! Dont forgot repply his results here!
TEST 1
- Which is the color of the f6-square?
- Which is the color of the b4-square?
- How a bishop from f5 can arrive on d6?
- Tell all the shortest routes to move a knight from e4 to h8.

Solutions to Test 2
1. 1.Qh7#
2. 1.Nd6#
3. 1.Qxf8+ Kxf8 2.Rd8#
4. Black cannot win because his king has no entrance in the corner to help the queen.
White will move only the king in the corner.
My results:
the first test was easy for me because I know some 'trickys' about knights: if he are in black square he control just white squares, then I know how reach h8 square (f7 and g6) and know from e4 I can reach just dark squares, and which dark squares reach f7 or g6? etc.. etc..
the second test Qh7# was easy, Nd6# was more because I know that pattern from caro-kan theory and not much because my board visualization ability. In question 3 I was trying figure out where the pieces are and Qg6+Bb7 threat mate in g2 scared me, my move was a fast Ng3 by dont looking for counter-attack (that happening when I can look the board too lol). In question 4 I played Kf4 but I dont knew really what to do after...
Funny anyway...
.....
Philosophical part, not too important...
I do not think we really see anything. When I try to visualize something like 'the color of square b4' one of the first IDEAS that comes to mind is the move b4 for white in Modern Benoni as being one of the methods (the part of f4-e5 plan). It is something personal and also recent, if I had not studied this recently another idea would take place in the mind. When I think of e4 the immediate idea is 1.e4 lol.
Yet, just as I could correctly answer Exercise 2 from Test 2 using a learned idea, I could easily respond to Exercise 4 from Test 2 if I had studied the theme 'Fortress' because I remember something involves fortress with bishop and horse in the finals, but I did not study carefully, I just went over ...
Maybe chess is just about ideas and as hard as I try, I can not remember anything I did in chess other than imitation of something I've seen before, hard to say if I really created something from scratch without any adaptation of something already existing !

Thank you for sharing them with us but it would have been nice if you had acknowledged the source or cited the webpage where you got these tests from. Afaik, they are part of the Grandmaster Package, a 13 month chess training course from the ICS (International Chess School: www.chessmasterschool.com). More specifically, your tests 1 & 2 happen to be the same as the 2nd month "Board Visualization" tests A and B of this course respectively: www.scribd.com/document/260872952/ICS-Board-Visualization

@Sneakmasterflex to post 12 months course with a huge material and copyright? No man, that was because I dont cited any source, that was just for fun... 8 questions which anyone can make similar ones... My copy&paste was just to save time...

I was able to solve all 8 questions. It was hard though! The last question required some time for me but then I figured out Black can't force a mate or win of material! Also, the one with Queen sacrifice (Mate in 2) was not easy either! Great exercices, regardless!

If you have answered 100% correctly to all the above questions, you have a good board
visualization capability and you may continue improving your skills by specific advanced
exercises. Our recommendations for you:
- Take a book with tactical exercises. Look at the diagram of a position for some
seconds/minutes until you memorize it. Then, solve the combination with all the
candidate moves / replies of your opponent.
- Read games without looking at the board.
- Play training games with some friend of you. If he is weaker than you, he should
play at the board, telling you the moves and you should not look at the board (but
write down the moves you two are telling)

I got 100%, but the 3rd question in Test #2 took me some time.
