Sudden drops in performance

Have you all experienced a time where you suddenly cannot calculate that well, make unnecessary blunders, solving only 10/50 puzzles correctly when you usually make 40/50, or being less sharp than you usually are? If yes, how did you overcome it?

Take it from me, someone with insomnia: if you haven't practiced playing chess while tired (which this account is dedicated to), then you will play way worse when you are. So either practice playing tired, or get some more sleep :).

Yes.

Go away and do something else for a while - don't keep pushing at it when you're not in the groove.

As painful as it is to lose a lot of games, just wait till you stop losing and you will reach your peak because after that wave of loses you have become stronger.

I'm experiencing it right now. Can't seem to do anything right today. I just try to remember that defeats are an inevitable part of chess. Take a break and return more determined.

If you are a upset about something, you will play way worse than you normally do.
And I also underperform quite significantly when I am tired or when I am frustrated about the previous games I just played.

Sugar will do you in.
I was +2000, christmas chocolate happened, and I lost 100 points overnight.
Very little sugar in the past few days, and I'm back to about 2000.

There are also foods that are good for chess.
Start tracking your diet.
