Searching lichess users by Email Address

Hi all,

Just wondering whether it's possible to search users by email address?

I have a long lost friend from overseas and I'm trying to get in contact. However they seem to be unresponsive via email. Was hoping they would still be active on here!

You can search via email addresses on chesscom and I couldn't find him there so I thought I'd try here.

chesscom is a us-based company. i'd be surprised if they did more than the bare minimum concerning data protection, if at all.

many us based companies comply with GDPR

The GDPR also applies to data controllers and processors outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) if they are engaged in the "offering of goods or services" (regardless of whether a payment is required) to data subjects within the EEA, or are monitoring the behaviour of data subjects within the EEA (Article 3(2)). The regulation applies regardless of where the processing takes place.[46] This has been interpreted as intentionally giving GDPR extraterritorial jurisdiction for non-EU establishments if they are doing business with people located in the EU.[47]
