Hello all, and thanks for taking the time to read this.
So for the better part of my life I have enjoyed staying in my bedroom as a youth, and playing with my Radioshack 2150L. I was given this as a gift for my 15th Bday. I tell you, playing this board exclusively, has granted me 5 trophies' back in the day. 2 decades later life takes a turn that forces me to make a drastic decision to move out of state....all is well btw, thx for asking. So now, I really miss playing on a board. I feel as though I play on the internet, is alot of fun, but something is missing. I think I have played just about everybody in my local area, that claims they can play ( which is just fine) just not at my level.
I can tell i'm rusty for sure. So I'd like to purchase a well balanced board that's not going to break my arm.
was thinking about the Genius pro, but can't stand those silver looking pieces. And at the current price, just abit more the DGT Centuar might fit the bill? Any help would be great. thx.
if you dont mind waiting until may or april the chessup board is fairly new ... eric rosen had a video he played on it a while back
the board looks cool , easy to use.. squares highlight...heres a link to his video.
This looks pretty cool. I had a DGT board but returned it because it didn’t work correctly... crying shame because the idea was excellent. This was fast and accurate. Tempting for sure.
Why not just go for the Standard Millennium ChessGenius, it's only about 120 ELO weaker (2219 v 2335) although it does have a much larger opening book and a real infinite analysis mode - the standard version will timeout fairly fast unless a button is pressed. Second hand ones are half price and can be resold very easily if things don't work out. There are also plenty of clones of the Saitek GK 2000 (1966) available second-hand that would be cheaper giving there age - also less toy looking!
I have a number of chess computers and the Millennium ChessGenius is the best value-for-ELO computer currently available new.
Note, that the Radioshack 2150L has an ELO of 1774 so you'll get a tougher game - I also own this one.
My main tip in purchasing a second-hand chess computer is make sure you can obtain the instruction manual, either with the purchase or available on-line, as there is nothing standard about the moding. As a secondary when you buy one, make sure you get the mains polarity right as some chess computers don't protect against reverse polarity. In general you don't want to run these computers from batteries for cost reasons.

First rule in the new internet influencer world: Never do pre-orders just because a influencer advertise a product. Wait for real test reviews.
Thx for the help guys. I've been bashing my head over and over about this. I mean it's not going to end my life...lol. However like others i'd like to get back to where I once was, and that was the help with a chess engine, or should i say a chess computer ergo 2150l.
I guess the big deal with me is, I need(like) to see the board as if it were... not on a screen...lol.
Back in my time I have won against 5 high School champs, and 20 plus years latter, have one against a scholastics chess player. Which happens to be roughly 6 years ago.
Anyway, is anybody here old enough to remember the GREAT AOL disk give away? You get a disk in the mail. Shove it into your computer, plug in a phone line, and follow instructions while your computer is screaming at you like it's being stabbed with a rusty spoon. Ahhh good times!
So of course there happen to be a chess program that I was drawn to (don't remember name), but WOW, I can play till my heart is content! Which I did. I didn't have youtube and the like. All I had was the local library at my school, which was very limited, and a copy of USCF magazine, once a month I would pick up from my local store. Boy have times have changed! That internet bill was just $10.00 a month! After the 30 day trail.....get another disk....hehe.
Sorry for all this boring stuff.....So..... I have very much thought about the Chees genius, and pro. versions. They seem to have great ratings, and they also have the same complaint. The board is way to small, or the pieces are way to big...just a big cluster f#c@ on the board. Not to mention the PRO has silver like pieces....I can't stand that! (small rant here....thumbs up if you agree). I also can;t stand chess set's that are made of glass, or look like a mirror, ect. These are the things other people will buy you because you like chess, and they think it looks really nice,,,,booooo!
As far as investing, let me just say one name...regium
So in the mean time I picked up a cheap lexiboard cg1410 for $25.00. Mean while i guess i just keep saving my money for that right one.
I would never buy one of those cheap Millenium plastic computers and the DGT Centaur is much overpriced like most chess computers.
The chessnut air board is cheap as well but not that bad for the price and combined with an android device also a chess computer.
Lexiboard cg1410 aka Lexibook Chessman Classic, 4K program with computer ELO of 1371 (manufacturer claims 1800). Very nice looking like a few of Lexi's other adult products.
As for the ChessGenius, giving it's smallish size, you can always treat it as a keypad - i.e. press the squares with your fingers whilst actually playing on a normal full sized quality chess board and pieces of your choice, bit inconvenient but doable.
My first true chess set was the Novag Super Conny and I still have a preference for playing with it, esp. with PDA-like chess computers that use symbolic figures. Weird really.
