Rematches against higher rated players

Is it just me or when you beat a higher rated player they ask for a rematch and if they lose/draw the rematch they will ask for another rematch until they win then leave?

No I get that to.

Yeah, the ego says that I can't lose to this weak player. It's like losing at Tic-Tac-Toe against a 5 year old.

If you play long enough, you will encounter every permutation of rematch possibility. There is no vast conspiracy to beat you just once and leave.

The most ripe apples are the ones nearest the end of a branch.
You just don't empty one tree and leave the rest of the orchard full.
I grab the biggest apple from the end of one branch and then move on to another tree.
When I want all the apples to taste the same, I stay with that tree but I don't go picking the second or third apple deep in the tree. Always the one on the end of the branch. Once I pick all the ones on the ends of that tree, I move onto another tree.

This method works for chess too.

The best games are the first games from every player. After the first game, you move on to the next player.
Anything else is going to spoil the results of the first game. They might even have discovered your weakness, and that's what gives them a win on the second game. Unless you want to play the same player, like picking all the apples from the same tree, then I think it's best to play a different player after ever game.

Avoid the temptation of staying with one player. Break the monotony caused by rematches and get into the routine of playing a different player for the variety.

I dunno Toscani..seems all the 2300 guys play game after game against the same opponent. Not a winning strategy to play one and leave, but to each their own.

Well aren't you lucky to find higher rated players that only want one win. I know from the embarrassing number of times that I've lost to lower-rated players that getting one back isn't enough. I always want however many is enough to get the rating back. Unfortunately, I sometimes succeed at doing this. I say "unfortunately" because successfully revenging myself in this way reinforces the irrational belief that I can do that every time, which increases the potency of the drug that is online speed chess.

Even if they are regulars whom I play often, or friends on my friends list, I've never had a propensity to rematch my last opponent.

I have no interest in rematches whatsoever.

I might accept one or two of them, here or there, if I have time; but other than that, I do not understand what the big deal is.

Rematchosis... It enters the brain and people think of nothing than rematches. The rematch becomes more important than the match itself.

@nopunchman If your rating and your opponent’s rating are accurate heading into the first match, then if you have enough opportunities to play them then you should get your rating points back most of the time. If you fail to get your rating points back despite being given many rematches, it is most likely because your original rating was not actually reflective of your ability, and thus not worth caring about.
