Hello guys!
I have a rating of 1600 or blitz, 1700 on rapid and 1750 on bullet on lichess website.
Recently I have been invited to play with a few friends on chess.com so I decided to head there, create an account and play some games so I reach a rating that represents my skill level.
On bullet I was quick to reach a rating of about 1650 which I think its a good representation of my skill level for bullet and relates to the rating I have here. Same goes to blitz reaching a rating of 1450 pretty fast.
However, on rapid I have been struggling a lot. I have a rating of about 1200 of chess.com and I seem to be having a lot of difficulty with players around 1200. Additionally I noticed that my game-play hasn't been up to the level I am on here. On chess.com I hang pieces and play much less solid.
I feel like my opponents are much stronger than their level, forcing me into many more mistakes that I usually avoid here. I am very curious to as whether this is something other players experience, or whether its just my idea/or maybe just a bad day for me. I know that in general chess.com has a lower rating system when compared to lichess, however I was expecting to be able to beat 1200 players based on my 1700 rating here. If anyone has some knowledge on this please let me know .
Thanks :)
p.s Lichess is the best <3
Yes, especially at the lower rating range there is quite a substantial difference in player strength in similar rating levels when comparing Lichess to chess.com. With your Lichess rating of 1600 blitz / 1700 rapid, you should probably eventually settle at around 1450-1500 on chess.com blitz and rapid. The blitz pool is actually a bit stronger than rapid pool in chess.com, so if you're able to play at 1450 blitz level on chess.com, you should be able to get to 1500 or so rapid pretty easily.
It seems that you're most likely having a bit of a bad streak on your rapid games, so that's most likely the reason and not the rating differences or the rating pool. Just keep playing and you should get to 1400-1500 rapid rating on chess.com eventually.
You can't compare the ratings from chesscom to lichess since both use different rating-systems. Lichess uses glicko-2: https://lichess.org/faq#ratings
Thank you for your replies! :)
Yes, you should play more games. It's impossible to be 1200 in rapid on chesscom and 1700 here. There are some strange players of 1300-1400 rapid rating on lichess too. They don't make any big threats and usually lose material early, but with a piece down suddenly they start to outcalculate 300 points higher rated players and can also outplay them on time. Later you can see that they are way underrated, beating 1800+ players.
Hahahha thats exactly what has been happening to me!!!! I am a rook or 2 knights up and suddenly they start forking my pieces!! I will try to put some more games in and see how things go :)
