years ago, i used to play against a 2200 cab driver sometimes at a mall club. he told me he beat deep blue badly in a blitz game with the "unsound" blackmar diemer gambit.
i beat chessmaster tal myself as a lowly 1400 (!!!) years ago when i switched sides in 1.e4 d5 2.d4 e5 3.dxe5 dxe5? because letting white queen trade for castling looked so bad and it was! i did it with less time than chessmaster even. it was on an old computer, but i'm sure it had to be at least 2000 rated.
i love rubbing the smith morra where a 1700 walloped a GM on youtube in gambit hater faces. i wish i still played it as well as i used to.
