My PC shuts down when I use the analysis board with Stockfish running in local browser

I know this topic has already been posted and I don't say the problem is Lichess or Stockfish.
I just try to understand how this can happen whereas my PC is usually very stable and can handle heavy video encoding, playing games while streaming, etc.
My config :

  • Ryzen 5900X with BeQuiet fan (150W Cooling)
  • GeForce RTX 3060 12Gb
  • 32Gb DDR4
  • 750W Gold PSU

Because your moves are exploding stockfish

I monitor my resources and temperatures while running a chess analysis.
When I use windows, I use the windows resource monitoring tool called: resmon

Try another browser to see if it's a browser issue or not.

If it shuts down the whole system, it's definitely not only a problem of lichess/stockfish (or browser). If I were facing an issue like this, I would start by trying to find out if the crash happens on OS level or if it's some hardware safeguard (e.g. an automatic shutdown when CPU reaches certain temperature).

Personally I haven't seen this (I also have a Ryzen 5900X, only with 96GB of memory) but recently I started encountering errors with the 16.1 SF engine when I leave it running for "too long" in some positions: it shows an engine error and I have to force-reload the page. Most often it happens in endgames or in positions where a forced checkmate is found. Reducing the memory settings, number of threads or number of lines shown doesn't help, switching to SF16 does.

I found that by reducing the number of threads in the analysis I no longer had sudden computer shutdowns. So I think the problem is indeed with the CPU and I'll try to monitor it to find the cause of the problem.

To be exact, the PC doesn't shut down completely, the screen goes black and the system stops responding. Even when the Power button is pressed, nothing happens.

Anyway, I'll try to investigate and thank you all for your answers!
