Misclick thread

This thread shall be designated for all your stories about the most egregious, unfortunate misclicks or mouseslips which still bug you everytime you think about them.

The case I'm going to tell still haunts me to this very day: There is this one player I had lost several times against already and who was ~ 100 pts. stronger than me. In our fourth game however I managed to wear him down so that he only had NOT EVEN TWO seconds on his clock whereas I had plenty (no increments). Our position was a dead draw though and all he did was pre-moving the same piece back and forth, so I did the most sportsmanlike thing which came to mind and wanted to offer him a draw. But what happened was that I resigned instead because I clicked the wrong button, not even once but twice. Can you even top that with your story and alleviate the pain, lol? :p

Expected to find tpr under this topic - recommending to activate move confirmation on the profile.
I guess he will still come up with this advice when you guys start posting games with worse misclicks :-)

Well, I can sort of relate but I cannot top your story since it was rather funny than frustrating.

Several months ago I have resigned a tournament game on first move as white after realizing that I have forgotten to berserk. Have clicked fast somewhere as must berserk before black makes a move and have hit the resign-button instead.

Then, just few days ago have accepted a draw offer in absolutely winning position because I thought my opponent asked me for a takeback.

Just a few days ago Carlsen had a mouse slip and gave away his queen to Nepo, so I guess it can happen to anyone.

Man, makes me feel less sucky.

@sparowe14 Nepo would have not taken it.He would probably give another move or offer him draw, but carlsen resigned as fast as possible. That's sportsmanship spirit

@Me31years The reverse happened with me. I won a game which i was completely losing. When i asked my opponent that why did he resign, he said that he wanted to give me a draw offer but his mouse slipped and he clicked in the resign button. I was so sorry for him.

I was playing bullet 1+0 and both of us had less than 10 seconds on the clock...

He moved his queen on the same diagonal as my queen no {defense for his queen] ...I saw it and dragged my queen to the square...But it fell one square short...He took it and I Rage quit....This has happened multiple times but only this is very saddening as I would have reached 2000 for the 1st time if I had won...

Another time is I resigned instead of offering a draw..

Lessons learned:

  1. play with increment: you have time to draw
  2. switch off takebacks: you may resign instead of granting a takeback
  3. do not offer draws: you might accidently resign instead of offering a draw, just play to the end
  4. activate confirmation for resigning and draw offers
