There is a "Chess Tempo" app for android at Google Play, and its free.

It comes with easy, medium and hard chess puzzles, plus you can play against the computer and online on FICS (which works pretty good)
But its not open-source software and the free version contains ads

Chess Tempo App Correction
@ #2 #5, sorry about Google Play claim over there, it seems you need to visit chesstempo.com/mobile. Then follow instructions that pop up on the top right (1.add to bookmarks 2. tap and hold bookmark 3. select add shortcut) to add it like an app to your android desktop. It has been so long I thought it was an app i've installed.
I wonder if there is any app which is also offline.... most apps would store their database on the cloud and let your phone communicate with the server, rather than download it on your phone for use when you are offline. I may be wrong in my assumptions though.
There are two FOSS chess applications available in the F-Droid repository. They are both pretty good.
