Long Think ... Wrong Think

When I go into a "deep think," it is usually because I am trying to justify a pawn sac or some other plan that has caused me to move "all in." Usually, I have many interesting continuations where my opponent just has only move rebuttals. Because I have raised the stakes, it makes a blunder much more likely to happen. I remember those blunders, but tend to forget those games where my deep think found the winning move.

usually its because when you think for a long time you aren't sure about your intuition, you don't know what to do. So you're actually more likely to make a mistake just because of that

Different reasons for blundering for different players/positions/time controls. As I mentioned earlier, I can only speak for myself. I make most of my blunders when I have a "winning game," but not yet a "won" game. Too much to think about.

Okay. Your Post Title...it hurts me ...deep in my soul.

Long Think Wrong Think?!!?!?!
How long did you think about that title? Obviously WAY too long.

Heres a replacement for that blasphemy:

THINK LONG THINK WRONG.

Long think wrong think. Lmao.

An old version of this Topic Title is "Long analysis, wrong analysis," usually attributed to Emanuel Lasker, but is used by many chess annotators of the last century.

Often when you think long about some variation, maybe you give it up "nah, I'll just play this instead", and end up playing something (else) you intuitively thought was the safe move, but didn't really spend any time analyzing...

Strange that this ts attributed to Lasker.
He also wrote: "If you see a good move, wait, do not play it, you might find a better one."

Well usually if you're having to think a long time, it's because the position is really complicated. It's a lot easier to mess up in complicated positions.

#18 Entirely logical, but (unlike the forum topic) it doesn't rhyme. :-D
