No doubt there are far more players there, but that is rapidly changing.
I was a paying member there for 5 years. Left about a year ago. Management has lost touch with the chess community imo. Priorities are to make a profit off of chess players.

@mdinnerspace I know that it depends on the system. I was just stating that the number called the rating is a higher number on lichess.org than on chess.com, but the strength is the same.

The same system is used here and there to calculate a players rating.
The final rating may not be exactly the same, but basically the final result is within a few points.
It's based on the ELO system and supplemented by the Glicko system.
Win/lose/draw between a 1600 vs 1600 here or at chess.com will result in an identical rating +/- a point or two.

@mdinnerspace not sure if you have seen this video. It focusses more on the technical aspect of the site. I don't know much about computers but Thibault says the problems with other sites like chess.com is they are built on old code and owe a large tech debt which this site doesn't have. I am guessing if chess.com wanted to have a site like lichess they would have to build it from scratch again? Maybe a developer can shed some more light. It's an interesting watch anyway.

Thibault had a great head of hair once. Glorious locks.

Exactly. Chess.com's code is old. Outdated. They are trying to fix a broken model with band aids. It is a fruitless endeavor.
Lichess developers are in the business of writing code. It is their profession. An entirely different model was used for this site. The chess aspect is a "project" to provide a free community service.
How many bugs here? Faster than heck.
I'm literally a stones throw away from chess.com's servers in Calif. Slow as molasses, disconnections up the ying yang. Lichess servers are in France. My ping time is 1/2 that of CC. with no disconnect issues. Sometimes my connection gets disconnected, but within seconds I'm back on.

"Lichess developers are in the business of writing code. It is their business. "
What are the chess.com coders then? They pay a team of full time developers. You would expect their site to be better by a mile. I actually wonder how much the chess.com developers are paid.

Chess.com has over 60+ developers. Each assigned a specific task. I doubt there is any communication between them.
They are not paid. They are volunteers. Chess players who as a hobby write code.
I'd be surprised if more than a handful of developers wrote the code for this site.
This information is readily available by searching staff members and their club at CC.
The developers here are professionals in writing code. For most playing chess is 2ndary. Quite a difference I'd say.
After 3 years, v3 has once again been placed on hold. If management had any sense, they'd trash it tomorrow and stay with v2.

Chess.com is just a capitalist bullshit. Lichess is faster, better and without ads!
If the Soviet Union survived, Lichess would have been an original idea of the Communist Party!

@mdinnerspace Why are coders volunteering on chess.com - a site that makes money. Doesn't make much sense. Surely they must get paid?
