Leaving a game warning

I was just playing a game and was waiting for my opponent to move.. and then it said I ‘had left the game and could receive ban’. I’ve never left a game.. resigned yes, but left a game, never,! I was winning the game so would have no reason to. It had said during the game that my opponent had left but he returned. What to do as I do not want name name blacklisted?

You might have made your move, but it was not sent to the server due to connection issues.

Regardless of why it happened (might have been connection issues or server restarting), don't worry about getting banned. The system is smart enough to not outright ban everyone who might accidentally leave a game, it only bans people who keep leaving or aborting games on a regular basis.

what happened is it was your move

you moved and your browser shows your move, stops your clock and starts your opponents clock on your screen.

but for some reason your move wasn't received by the server

so as far as the server is concerned it's your move and your clock is running on the server

while you were waiting for your opponent to move your time ran out on the server.

it doesn't happen often. what I do is if my opponent hasn't move for 30 seconds, I refresh the page.

@BorisOspasky : Something same happened to me today. I was waiting my oponent to move and suddenly I disconnected and after I reconnected I lost because I'd left the game but I didn't.

Seems like a connection issue. Sorry, there's nothing lichess can do about your connection :(
Hopefully it improves... if you are on data, make sure you play games where you have a reliable connection.

#4 It's not a bug. When you lose connection to a server because your wifi cuts out, it's not lichess's problem. In fact, there's nothing lichess can do to remedy that.

@BorisOspasky we all get those warnings at some point. It's not a big deal. For that to result in more serious consequences, it basically has to happen a lot. I wouldn't worry about it.
