I've made a website where you can play against 118 different chess engines in your browser

Hi everyone,

Link: www.jimmyrustles.com/ccrlchallenger

I've been working on this project for the past few weeks. It's a website that allows you to play against engines from the CCRL in your browser. I thought it'd be fun to be able to play against CCRL engines without having to download and run them, so I made this site.

There are 118 different open source engines, all taken from the CCRL. I tried to include as many engines as I possibly could, but I could only include engines with Windows releases and permissive licenses that passed testing, which left me with 118 engines.

You can give the engine 1ms to 5 seconds of move time and play the games completely in the browser.

Please try it out and let me know what you think.

Greatest chess website invention till now.
I salute you bro.

I salute you bro.

Thanks! I really appreciate that.

Just a quick update everyone, I've updated the formatting on mobile and it should be way better now. The board takes up the full width of the screen on mobile now so it should be a lot easier to use and playable. I've also added a "Toggle Engine Info" button so you can hide the engine's thinking if you want.

My Suggestions:
I want you to add more features so that you rock!

  1. Add more piece sets and boards. I can help :

https://github.com/lichess-org/lila/tree/master/public/images/board
(All credits to lichess)

  1. Add PGN option so that we can get the games.

  2. Add Forward-Backward arrow to replay moves.

  3. Your website lacks some design. Add a background like chess pieces, some plain color so that it looks attractive too.

  4. The engines you have always evaluate on their favour. Like when white is in adv. we write +/- and if black is in adv. we write -/+
the engine, when playing black, says +0.3 as -0.3 . It thinks that it is the main character. So I get confused by it's eval, like
what's it saying?? I have a photo too, if you don't understand
[You probably didn't understand, neither I could explain properly ;) ]

Look at the Yellow highlight I made. The position is very common. Queen's Gambit. He says it is -0.1 . I am sure a 3400 elo
engine won't evaluate like this. In chess everybody knows that (-) is black's favour. But here the position is well knownly atleast
    microscopically better for white right?
Now I share you the same game later, where I blundered purposely.

Look at the 'score' it's +2. In chess everybody knows (+) means white's favour. But the engine is evaluating itself +2 it does not
    matter if it's white
or black. that creates some confusion (actually a lot of confusion) in complex positions, when I am playing white and the
engine says +2, I get tricked into thinking that my position is better.

I want to say that please change the symbols.

I know that it's easier said than done, these are only my suggestions!

My Suggestions:

The pieces are interesting. It would be good to get them on the site but it would be a lot of work to integrate the pieces and allow the users to preview and select each piece set.

PGN output is high on the priority list.

Forward and backward buttons and replaying the game are probably not something I'll add in the near future. It'd be a lot of work to get that functionality working with chessboard.js.

I've considered improving the design, but I like the plain design. It goes well with the rest of my site.

I originally had it showing the score in relation to the engine's favour, but I've just changed it on your suggestion so that it shows it relative to white's position. So positive scores are now always in white's favour and negative scores are in black's favour.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm planning to keep upgrading the site.

I've just added 18 more engines to play against, including a 1590 engine.
