It's possible to cheat with time control?

Hi:

I play on Lichess but I'm not an expert in the technology behind and want to ask about a thing that I see several times, last one in the game that I ended a few seconds ago: lichess.org/LfS00MmERkBE

Happened that both had a few seconds, 22 myself 17 my opponent. If I not remember bad he thinked a lot in the last move and his time was about 6 or 7 seconds when he made his move. And surprise, after his move (the games was 5+2) his clock was in 23 seconds!!!

Of course, mine was decreasing and I lost by time.

How it's possible to have such increment, from around nothing, to 23?

I will appreciate any comment.
Connection problem on your side, probably. I'm guessing opponent made their move but it didn't reach you for a while. Then when it did, the updated clock times reached you as well.
On move 40, you're opponent had 24.5 seconds as far as i can see.
You're time decreased from 27.2 seconds to 11.8 seconds. (17.2 seconds thinking time + 2 seconds added) Sorry, but I don't see where you had 22 seconds and you're opponent 17 ...
I don't know how to see the time in the saved game, only I'm commenting what I've in my memory. I'm not saying that the opponent is cheating, only asking for this behavior in the clock that happened me lot of times.
There is no such thing as time cheat. On the other hand connection problems and lags are very common. Unfortunately there is no way for you to find out how much lag you had once the game is over.

The time graph you get in game analysis mode shows the time situation from the website's perspective; it does not distinguish between your actual move time and your connection lag time.

Also note that during the game the clock might run normally once you make a move (as it runs locally on your computer) however it then gets adjusted and updated by the server, so you might see your opponent's clock run down from 10 s to 5 s, but you have to recheck once he has made a move, because it might jump back up to 10 s which means he made an instantaneous move but because of lag you received it with delay. Sometimes you might even get punished for your lag. (for example you make pre-moves but still you lose several seconds.)

So on the whole it is much better not to play at all when your clock acts weird (meaning connection between you and lichess is not stable)
@garduino You can report to this player (if he was changing the time) using the report button. If there was NO problems with Internet connection.
Anecdotally, i can say that funny things happen on the clock ONLY when my opponent is losing and NEVER when i am losing, so i would say that it is possible to cheat on the clock.
