@Wolfram_EP not really, thats a false logical jump. Donations are meant to be purely optional, and I do consider donating sometime in the future as this site added a lot to me. Donations and paymens differ a lot from my point of view.
They differ a lot, I just don't see anything disgusting in asking payments for the content. The sites like Lichess & Wikipedia that live on voluntary donates without ads are a rare exception rather than a rule.
True, lichess is really... clean, and it's more pleasant to play on a chess site which don't display pubs or require a payment. But it's a shame that lichess don't do some games like Puzzle Rush of Chess.com
I think it could attract even more people. But it's too true than we have some variant of the game here which are really explosive ^^

last time i looked, there were a bunch of results. thats what happens when you sell bottom dollar ads. its cost effective for crooks to buy up adspace to inject malware. they could fix this by better curating their ads, but they dont. instead they rely on people to report it (which they may not be able to do at all, if their computer is borked, plus, thats a bit too late, huh?)
i actually talked to them a bit about this on reddit before, and they didnt seem to give enough of a shit to change the cause of the problem. their staff is incredibly rude, too. one of them accused me of lying about conversations I had with other staff members. a conversation that happened on the internet, and I managed to archive it btw, so i have proof of them lying about me lying. never lie on the internet people, the internet never forgets!

It's much smoother here and everything is free. The only difference is that their less players here, but that is rapidly changing as you can see. More and more people are playing here. This place is wonderful.
All the garbage and poop needs a place for it. That place is chess.com
