I have tried setting computer analysis to "only me" and to "no one" but always the engine gets turned on, whether I'm on my account or not on my account.

What I'm trying to do is have the study user be able to practice against the computer, so I use analysis mode "practice against the computer" but obviously I don't want them to use the computer to give them the answers. The computer should only move its own pieces. But I can see no way to have "practice against the computer mode" turned on without allowing the user to just press space to have the computer give the answer.
I want the computer to play its side but not give the answer. Is there any way to do this?

For me "Computer analysis: only me" works. See e.g that study of mine
https://lichess.org/study/om0UtANz
, can you use the engine there?

@Alakaluf Thanks for the response. The engine is turned off yes, but it's not in "practice with the computer" analysis mode. This means that you will not be able to play against the computer. You will have to make moves for both sides in that study.
What I want is the person using the study has to play against the computer. But they can't use the engine to get the answer.

Where so you see it give the answer? It only shows the evaluation for the position. You can't "play vs the computer" without the computer being enabled.
I guess an option to hide the evaluation might be an idea but the eval shouldn't really give that much away and imo it's usually quite useful to see whether you actually found the best move or to immediately see how bad an inaccurate move was.

I agree that seeing an evaluation is not a big deal. What I'm talking about though is user of the study being able to just press the spacebar and get shown what the top engine move is.

Ah, ok. You should have said so. That seems like a bug. Should be an easy fix though. I'll look into it.

@benwerner Thanks.
Hi @benwerner Any updates about this ?
Hi @benwerner Any updates about this ?
Sorry, got busy with other stuff so it just ended up on my todo list. Should be fixed with the next update now. Not sure when that will be but probably within the next week.
