Is having a study open or previous games open and following them considered cheating?

@oldegeezer
Yeh gonna have to concur with you on that one.
I dont get correspondence at all.
Probably really only bothers me since people have been using it to manipulate rankings on variants :l=

& OP doesnt want to cheat. He wants confirmation he isnt being cheated.
At least not by those not worthless enough to actually go through the trouble of having a second device open to be their guide.

What you mentioned right there is why I only play Blitz or less. Preferably no more than 3 minutes; I'd rather have 15-45 seconds + 1 or 2.
Not everyone will be doing that; but enough people (probably) do in Rapid / Classical that I want nothing to do with it.

Everything comes from my mind; and I'd rather my opponent beat me because he's smarter not because he's sneakier.

@DollaHollaAtcha

when i was young i liked ten seconds per move
that was mandatory move at exactly ten seconds
we used to have weekly tournaments at the divan in DC back then
and we had a timer that rang a bell every ten seconds with a ref watching all the players
and
i also liked 5 minute SD games
i played faster times but they were mostly blunderfests

now that i am older i need a bit more time
7-8 min SD is okay for me to play decently

cant figure out any formula to use to figure out which game+delay
would work best for me.

i really like that old exactly ten second=must move as the best

2+8 seems to be okay for my current brain speed
tried others
some worked some didnt
1/2 + 5 seems a bit too fast but not too much so

i dont worry about cheating
that hurts them not me

I like correspondence because i like puzzles and it give me time to mull over moves. Also i really enjoy understanding all the nuances of opening and the artistry of chess
