Interesting study, thanks for sharing. Note the study it's from 2006, so it doesn't account more recent championships

There's no evidence FIDE's elo rating has suffered from inflation, but instead deflation. See "Results" of ojs.aaai.org/index.php/AAAI/article/view/7951

Hey, it's me again. Funnily enough, 1 of the papers I had seen before (link below) actually cite, discuss and propose an improved model than the one you linked.

Nice article. I guess in terms of performance, Carlsen may be the best. I wonder, however, about true ability and potential (Carlsen also has the advantage of modern engine analysis). I suppose we may never know the answer to this one. And I think @MrPushwood has a point that true ability may not necessarily be captured by rating.

That said, your article's implications is that as far as we can tell, Carlsen is the GOAT.
i like hikaru but hes not the best player of all time i think that would be magnus or kasparov

Right you are. It is deflation. I mixed this up. Unfortunately it is too late to edit my post.
Viswanathan Anand , 5 time world champion in the years 2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012 ,currently rank 16 in the world, he has maintained his top 20 position after 21 years, which is just incredible, considering the fast improvement in the level of chess due to chess engines like stockfish, leelachess, etc. and unlike other greats of the past like Garry kasporov, is still a active player
Morphy had the greatest gap between himself and the strongest players of the world.
