i'd like to find some games i've played that followed a sequence of moves

i'm watching some chess videos and seeing some traps that i think i might've fallen for in the past. i'd like to find those games but haven't been able to. is there a way to search for all games i've played that have followed the first 5-10 sequence of moves?

It might be possible to find them by opening. It will narrow your search, although it might not narrow it down to the exact line you're looking for. Look up the ECO code for the opening and you can search games with that ECO.

Out of curiosity, which openings were they and which traps?

You could download all of your former games here: https://lichess.org/api/games/user/Swordfish1

Then with the pgn you could just find all strings that match that move sequence.

@doom12384 the main one is the fried liver attack. and the thing is, in the insights explorer i did search for that, but the two hits i got were unrelated. i dont know why. what's ECO code ? and where were you suggesting i look for them, on the insights tool or somewhere else?

@eeegnu thanks, didn't know i could download my games! i've done so. how do i use the pgn file now? i'm not familiar with these steps.

A PGN (Portable Game Notation) is basically a text file. Although you can look for a specific opening, in a text editor, by searching for a string, "1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 Nxd4 4. Nxd4 exd4", it's much easier to search using a chess database.

A chess database, such as the free SCID or SCID vs. PC, allow you to search a PGN file for specific positions. Just setup a position and search for the current board (Ctrl+Shift+B). This will provide you with a temporary list of games containing that position.

Best of luck.

or

Just clicking on the link will open that page.

Any forum threads that you're following will appear in the upper left of the home page. If you are referrenced ( @Swordfish1 ), it will also show in your notifications.

Feel free to ask any questions, it's one of the best ways to learn.

Btw, I just learned that you can filter your games before you download them. This is useful if you don't want to download certain types of games.

but when i go there it only shows my most recent results. which is fine in this case since i only post about once in a couple months. but is there a way to see all the questions i've asked?
