I get creamed playing games when not logged in!

Being stupidly protective of my p*ss-poor ranking, if I feel I'm on a losing streak or too inebriated to play "at my level", I log out and play casual games.

I get turned over so often by players who are clearly much stronger than me.

Who are these players?
And what do they get out of humiliating anonymous n00bs?

(I must have a masochistic side because I keep going back.)

Whenever I play anonymous games, I always randomly get matched up against Carlsen or Nakamura.

In all seriousness, I read one user describing the anon chess in a positive light, saying that it reminded them of sitting down at a chess board in the park, taking any comer - not knowing who you're facing, maybe never seeing them again. Who knows how good they are?

I thought it was kind of... poetic, the way they described their feelings on it.

#1 I have been playing the anon board only for the last six years. After many years of rated play on other sites... I grew weary of the point chase. You can see in my profile that I think of the anon board as a skittles room...where i can just play some Chess. I like the total zen mode of anon games. I don't play to humiliate anyone. More...like to teach them a Chess lesson. I too suffer humiliating defeats from time to time...but the defeats are my fault...not my opponents. There are some who may get their Chess ego's boosted by crushing weaker players...these wins are hollow. The humiliation is mostly in your mind. I think there are lots of players that use the anon board to warm up before rated play. One advantage of anon games is that all of your poor play and nasty defeats don't show up in your game record. I wonder if lichess members would like to be able to purge their game record of their worst games and only display their best games. My studies contain all my games I feel represent my best play. Playing anon used to be much more fun when chat between players was still allowed. But..It got abused to much . I used to have some nice chats with people during games. :]

You should be able to choose to enable chat in anon games. Good post though I do notice that there is often strong people in anon!
