For a beginner: Start with the basics, i.e. Italian. Don't focus on opening too much, learn tactics until you climb to a level where you aren't greatly improving anymore. Then start learning strategic concepts and with that you'll find openings that fit you best because you understand the strategic concepts behind the opening. There is no reason to try to take the second step before the first.

A player that has a Training puzzle rating of 1406 is a Category 3 or Class C player. They are far from being a beginner. These players already know the golden rules. If they do not, then they need to apply them or else their game rating will be in the 984 range.
Over my life span, I have generalised the rating as follows:
College or university chess players are well above the 1200 ratings, Secondary school chess players are around the 1200 and the elementary school kids are around the 800 rating.
I have seen exceptions, but that's the way I see it.
Novice / Beginners: Need a few guide lines.
- Place a pawn in the Center and avoid the Gambits;
- If you plan to Castle Short, play those Minor Pieces first.
- Develop & Mobilize the minor pieces towards the Central Squares.
- Maintain & Control the Pawn Structure and enjoy the game.
- Review the game to see your Blunders.
Learn how to fix your blunders & Exploit the blunders of your opponent.
Read up on chess terminologies, and you will learn new things, like ... Opposition, Triangulation, Gambits, Plan, Organize, Strategize, Time & Tempo, Space Mobility & Activity Tasks. Once you read and can apply all the chess terms in your games, you are no longer an amateur. You have a Passion for chess.
