How many moves are there in chess!

i said 'moves' - not 'positions in a game'.

just the pure written down moves. (regardless of any position or game)

you are telling me by move 6 for white there are over 100 million possibilities?
well, there goes my plan for the advent of chess day 8 (i was gonna try to go through all the possible mate in 6s, i didn't think there were that many)

I remember in the book, they provided an estimate. it was the numeral one followed by a large paragraph of zeroes. It might have been Irving Chernev's Fireside Book of Chess. Probably you have never heard of that one. :(

BTW there are more than one right moves in positional middle games and a lot of right moves in opening
