#4 I remember Grischuk found a different solutiin to the issue of bathroom visits in previous Candidates...
I am older than most people on LIchess. IN the 80's when I was a junior at a chess club there were two official ratings. There was classical: 40 moves in 90 minutes, and blitz. Different clubs might have had different blitz rules or time controls. But where I was blitz was 5 minutes each with no increment. Analog clocks back then. We used the rules that if your king was in check and you missed it then the king could be captured on the next move which was a win. Also, once the game started if any pieces or pawns started off in the wrong position then the game continued. Yes, some players did deliberately try to start off with pieces on the wrong squares to get an advantage!! I am serious. There are some cunning individuals.
For all that blitz was seen as a bit of a novelty and an afterthought.
