Hello. Where to find GM games?

Hi!

I have a match today. And would like to find games similiar to what i know will be played today.

I've looked it up at chessgames database, and i know the code is A81.

But is there a way to search games where i have a format where x first moves must be identical to the moves i have put in?

Note thats its very early, so i understand if this made no sense at all. Cheers.

Hi,

Yes I think some chess databases will only look for the resulting position after X moves, maybe they do not care about exact order of those moves. I need to check on my local database that I am using (SCID).
Do you care a lot about move transpositions in your case, i.e. is the exact move order very important?

I suggest that you can do this:

  1. you can try looking here https://chesstempo.com/game-database.html and check if your moves yield suitable games,
  2. you can try searching here on lichess, if you go to Analysis board [ https://lichess.org/analysis ] and start entering your moves in exact order, and then click on the small "book" icon under the move list on the right side -> scroll down and there will be list of some games with these moves.
in both (1) and (2) you need to check that move order in those games is exact, because I am not sure.
  3. you can write the exact move order(s) that you are interested here, and I can try searching in my local database to see if I can find such games.

Cheers!

I recommend you to get SCID and download both caissabase (http://caissabase.co.uk/) and opening specific bases (https://www.pgnmentor.com/files.html#openings). Additionaly iccf database is very useful, but you have to register at iccf site to get it (registration is free though).
