explaining how to read multi-pv and pv data for dummies ?

someone to explain to me how to read multi-pv and pv data and the relation between it and how i can using this data to ranking the engine moves to play in the same turn from the best move to play to the worst move to play ?

my fen are 'rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1'

and that's what i get when i analyse it
best move : e2e4
and my 3 mulipv data lists i don't know what this positions in every lists mean ?? are the first positions on every list from them mean the best move to play on the current turn ? so if we said that the position e2e4 are the best move are the same first pos on the multipv 1 list mean the best move to play so the pos d2d4 in the multipv 2 list mean the pos d2d4 are the second best move to play so that's mean the alternative move to e2e4 are d2d4 and c2c4 from multipv 3 ?
'multipv': 1 'pv': ['e2e4','d7d5'],
multipv': 2 'pv': ['d2d4','d7d5','c2c4','c7c6', 'b1c3', 'g8f6', 'g1f3', 'e7e6','e2e3','f8b4', 'f1e2' ,'e8g8','e1g1','b8d7','c1d2','d5c4'

PV means Principal Variation, a variation composed by the "best"(best in the opinion of the engine) moves. The first line is the PV of the move 1.e4. Multi PV means that engine analyze the PV of more than one move. The engine order the PVs by "best" to "worst" move.

In this case the "best" move is 1.e4, the second 1.d4 and the third 1.c4. The first line looks suspicious, only two moves and 1...d5 as best response to 1.e4

In the opening phase the computer can lose the way in the zigazillion number of posibilites and the experience of human play adquire by playing a lot of games through history and see what moves didn't work so well is clearly best.
