Hello,
I have solved like 5000 tactics with Chess Tactics Server, but I noticed that I am more or less at the same rating after the number 100 and the number 5000. This is worrying! But I am not the only one: if you see the ranking page for everyone, you see that there is no correlation at all between the number of tries and the ranking obtained.
Consequently, is solving puzzles (on Chess Tactics Server) useless? logically it is...
Also, I am playing tennis once a week, during 1 year. And I notice that I am always making the same mistakes: I cannot attack with my forehand, this is nearly as bad one year ago and now. So this is exactly the same situation as for tactics puzzles: it seems we have a plateau that we cannot surpass, no matter how much we exercise.
What do you think of that? It is extremely hard for me to understand why we don't improve for certain things no matter how much we exercise.
Thanks.

My understanding is that after one plateaus, this means the training regiment needs to be changed/modified/revised in order to break through to the next stage of development.
Weightlifters also experience this phenomenon and completely change up their routine once in a while to combat against this.
It is the reason why, in most fields of sport, regardless if its an athletic one or mental one, there is a coach to help guide the person through these times. Drills and repetition will only get you so far...

@Castellum1 i will agree to this very problem. The same is not only happening to me in chess but has also happened with the subject Mathematics. Though i did not like the latter but situation demanded an improvement. It was necessary at that moment. i did try, it might be that i did not try hard enough but still i was making the same mistakes over and over again, forgetting formulae etc. The same is happening in chess, though i like the game very much. It seems, and i have come at believing the fact that not all subject or disciplines can be well processed by the brain towards an improvement. However, i will add that extreme repetition helps. i am also into music and i can see that with extreme practice, especially repetition of notes etc and studying the patterns has somewhat led me to an improvement. But, it has taken me years to do so. Still there is a lot to go.
