Elo points when winning a game totally random

How am I supposed to gain elo if sometimes I win like 1 or 2 points and other times I lose 20 points. It's completely random. Maybe I win like 5 out of 6 games in a day but still lose elo xD. FIX IT

you are playing against people 500 points less than you...

there is easy fix: play against people around your own strength then you gain/lose about same amount points per game.

yeah it's so random
i wish they would start using some kind of formula using rating deviation and rating gain proportional to the ratings of both players

In low elo like until 1900 it just totally random. You can find a 1900 ELO noob player that just randomly won his first games and got like +100 each game. Or you can find people with 1400 ELO who have like 60.000 games played and if you lose against them, and you will probably, you lose like 20 points. I think they should give like a flat number of points in low elo games, because I've won games playing against solid players and have got1 point.

You got one point because you deserved one, or less. People who get "like 100" points have high RD and once the play enough it will settle to about 4-7 points per game. Google glicko to see how it goes.

And lets do the calculation for you in Elo as thta is easily understood. You play someone about 400 weaker - as you are in habit of doing - then you expected score is about 0.9 points. Given your strength you would have maximum change (K) of 30. If you would exceed expectation by 0.1 point (actually bit less) so you would gain 0.1* 30 = 3 points. And in case you lose you fall short 0.9 points of expected score and hence would lose 0.9*30 = 27 points.

Thats is the way goes when player weaker players you win a lot of games as expected just that you will lose all gain on few losses that happen. As it should be.

Dont like it: play against opponent close to you own strength.
