But @OP if your rating really is 700~ dont play the bot. Instead download videos about the chess principles and watch them instead of playing.

At your level, studying will give you bigger benefits than actually playing.
I read, I watch videos, I take the lessons here, and I try to play bots and people. At my level (probably less than 500) anything I do is probably going to help. I'm just getting started, so any and all help, study, advice and experience is going to help. Like Capablanca said, you have to lose hundreds of games before you start winning.
thanks!
(but yeah, I need to study more)

Like I wrote earlier, Chessmaster is the way to go in my opinion, especially if you're really eager to learn. It's very fun to use.

Grab a copy of Chessmaster for PlayStation 2. Has detailed explanation of moves and tutoring. You know with all the advancements in computer technology and we never get an upgrade to that game on consoles. It's always the stupid "Pure Chess" game where we play chess near a fireplace and have classical music in the background with shiny gold and silver pieces. Game developers are so lazy nowadays.

I tried Lucas chess, and my malware checkers started screaming... I did just now find an offline option on the Lichess mobile app, just looking for one for a PC laptop. Maybe if I DL Lucas from a different source?
EDIT; what the heck, this laptop is a hunk of junk anyway. If it gets trashed I'll just buy a better one.

I would go with the suggestion of (@)petri999. Download Arena and download an engine. In Stockfish and some other engines you can set an Elo level that it should play on. If I'm not mistaken this is the mechanism how Stockfish in Lichess is set on its different levels of strength.
