Does anyone use the program SCID ( Shane's chess information database) ?

Has anybody experience with this program ?
Advantages - disadvantages ?

I have SCID downloaded alongside several million games in the database.

If you're serious about chess and want to work hard at studying, then SCID is the best tool out there.

With that said, I haven't set it up on my new system, and probably won't.

It's just not that important for people at my level.

SCID is mostly for people that have the proficiency to make use of it.
Lower-rated players would better spend their time casually reviewing their own games.

But if you're very serious, there is nothing wrong with downloading SCID and uploading all of your games and cross-checking them with comparable openings that masters have played, and studying/learning/incorporating the different ideas that they implement.

Here is the link to a database containing several million chess games.

It contains games by player, by tournament, by openings, and also contains the stock SCID library as well:

Simply Copy-Paste the SI4/SG4/SN4 files into the 'SCID vs PC' main folder:

And then access them in the SCID vs PC program:

Pros:
open source
runs on Linux/Unix/Windows

Cons:
original project doesn't handle Chessbase database, there's however another project that does scidb, though it doesn't run on Windows yet
doesn't come with game database, at least large enough
