Ironic isn't it that yet a further piece of technology, towit the dgt chessboard, can reduce the need for said adaptation and proves that a system's actual level of technology can be inversely proportional to the experiencial levels. In my thinking it serves as a paradigm example of "the man serving machine" you neo luddites had in mind.
Thankfully, I have no nasty std- invested / infested sailors/ 'navigators because I always practice safe chess.

For anything where the time control is fairly fast, any sort of real physical board is clearly impractical. You spend too much of your time moving the pieces.
However, I like playing with a real physical board when possible. I find it easier to concentrate this way, to be honest.
I experimented with a DGT board and found it quite useful for moderate/slow games: you can listen to your opponent's moves be announced by your PC (or displayed on the digital clock attached to the DGT board) so that your gaze need never leave the physical board.
I agree that the DGT boards are expensive. However, using one does make me play better chess because I concentrate better :-)

After playing for years online only, It feels weird to play with an actual board to me. I had very few people to play with OTB
