i don't know if this is discussed before, but i came up with idea of making 16x16 chessboard and implementing it on lichess.
just had been thinking about what chess gameplay would look like on twice bigger board but was unable to find any website where i would be able to try myself. not only could we play standart, 32 pieced game, but could have twice more pieces but still one king.
anyway, if you know any website or app which offers that kind of chess, i would be thankful if you told me about it.

16x16 is 4 times bigger than 8x8, but great idea.

Then you should put 4 sets of chess men on this giant board and you would get one point per mated king? Bishops, Rooks and Queens would not mind, but the poor pawns and knights would need extra food to cross the distance.

It's the space between the territories that makes the difference.
Keep the 8 wide chessboard, but make it rectangular by adding two more rows.
Now try playing chess with the pieces clustered together in the middle of the chessboard and the game will not last long. Push them apart and the game will last longer.
Give them even more territory by adding two more rows and the game will probably behave like an open game. The closed and semi-closed openings will have a smaller impact. It will take more time to get to your opponents territory.
That alone should be enough of a change to grab everyones attention in a new chessboard variant, without having to add extra chess pieces.
All the present memorized openings would no longer work the same way, yet it would still be the same tactical endings as we know them.

Yeah, it's fun! I actually own a set - the only problem is getting 4 people together willing to play chess

what's bad about this is that it's not available to play any of those online.

They have 4 player chess on hellochess.com
The site is pretty new, created by a member of the community here.
If you can't find 3 others to play with, you can also play against the AI. It's pretty fun!
