Can't find any details via a quick google search. What is the story here? I know it was a semi decent freemium chess site years ago but what exactly prompted them to close? steady decline?
Funding. Server costs could not be maintained.
Pretty sure that getting that freemium content to level that is enough just did not work out. That is competed game I mean selling videous as part of the playing experience. Chess.com, ICC, chess24 at least have also video offering. I guess comes down to volumes of offering. Chess.com just has more of everything. Competing on playing experience is kinda hard. And their virtual currency thingy you got from playing and needed to play? Probably other found just confusing as well
The site was originally set up as an online gambling site.It ran foul of gambling laws in most of the countries who it was received in.There was no incentive to prevent cheating, since the house took a 3% rake each way on every transaction.Cubits were bought with real money, then converted to crowns onsite.Crowns could be redeemed for real money.
