Chess.com vs Lichess rating

I'm rated 1600 in chess.com and 1900 in lichess (Blitz). What about you guys? And can anyone explain why there's a difference in rating between the two?

Chesscom elo starts a 1200, lichess at 1500, so there is a 300 points difference

google up before asking. This has been anwered several times. Rating are allways relatvie. there is no reason to assumet that similar skill level endup giving same rating in different player pools

@petri999 "Rating are always relative". Does that mean the quality of players is less in lichess? I'm a noob. I just started playing last year so pardon me if my questions seem dumb.

My chess.com blitz was 1950, and my blitz rating in lichess is 2200. But in variants, lichess.org rating is loser by 50 pts.(and I am a top 100 player here)

@pjpatrick No it does not mean anything like that. It just means that lichess blitz rating can be compared to another lichess blitz rating in meaningfull way. 1900 in one pool gould grandmaster and in other pool a beginner. It might be that average chess..com player is stronger you cannot deduct it from ratings values.

Difference is due to different starting value for new accounts and strength distribution of players and what is being measured. chess.com classifies 10 minutes as blitz but in lichess that would be rapid. Hence to a small degree even different skill set is being measured.

Think of rating just as mean of finding roughly equal opponent. That all there is to it

It shoudl be easy to see that actual numerical value is meaninless from the fact your chess skill is not being measured. just your win/loss/draw rates. Only your skill relative to other player is being measured

Yea ok. Makes sense. Thank you for explaining in such a detailed way @petri999

I'm rated 2112 in blitz on chess.com (I usually play 3+0) and 1800 in bullet while being rated around the same on lichess (apart in blitz where I don't have a stable rating). But I would say that a 2000 chess.com player is like a 2200 on lichess (more or less) and a 1500 chess.com will be like a 1700-1800 on lichess. The thing is, with the chess.com rating, you get a closer idea to your elo level (kind off). For example, a 2000 lichess player (classical) would like a 1700 or so player while a 2000 chess.com player woould like a 2100 elo (in classical still).

(I might be too low rated to say) but I am rated 850 on chess.com and 1450 in lichess so a -600 point difference
